Safety and Health at Work - World Day

Published: 27 April 2024

Today, 28 April 2024, marks both World Day for Safety and Health at Work (World Day) and Workers' Memorial Day. It’s a reminder to recognise the importance of health and safety in the workplace.

The latest data shows that in 2022, in Australia alone, 195 workers tragically lost their lives due to work-related injuries. This concerning statistic underscores the importance of increasing awareness around work health and safety to prevent work-related injuries and fatalities.

The International Labour Organization’s (ILO) theme for World Day 2024 focuses on the ‘impacts of climate change on occupational safety and health’. The theme underscores the recognition that changing weather patterns can pose significant risks to workplace health and safety. With heatwaves, floods, and extreme weather events becoming more frequent, businesses must be prepared to mitigate these risks.
