Training Alone Isn’t Enough: NTIA and Allara Global Respond to Calls for Safer, More Inclusive Nightlife Spaces

01 July 2025

At the recent Night Time Economy Summit, one message was loud and clear: the current safeguarding training approach is not enough to drive real change.

Across the UK, venues, staff, and customers are calling for change. Frontline workers often feel underprepared to respond to serious issues like harassment, drink spiking, or hate crime.

Training is inconsistent, inaccessible for freelancers and part-time workers, and too often focused on ticking boxes rather than building real-life skills. Meanwhile, customers, particularly women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and marginalised communities, still face barriers to feeling safe and welcome on a night out.

Why Allara Global? Why Now?

To meet this moment, NTIA has partnered with Allara Global, a leader in online hospitality training, to deliver a next-generation training platform explicitly tailored to the night-time economy.

The partnership offers NTIA members access to:

  • A rich library of UK-compliant, expert-led courses across safeguarding, customer service, bar skills, leadership, and inclusion.
  • Bite-sized, mobile-friendly learning built for flexible roles and high turnover environments.
  • customisable learning management system with tracking, reporting, and integration with HR platforms.
  • Support for bespoke training content, reflecting each venue's operational and cultural realities.

“This collaboration reflects a growing demand from venues that want better training and real standards,” added Michael Kill, NTIA CEO. “We’re here to deliver that, not just for compliance, but for community.”

“Our partnership combines deep industry advocacy with proven educational technology,” said Andrew Lewis, CEO of Allara Global. “By joining the NTIA's commitment to its members with our expertise in scaling knowledge and performance, we’re delivering a solution that directly addresses the sector's need for accessible, high-impact training.”

“We stand for inclusive spaces. We stand for safety, for every single person who walks through our doors,” said Silvana Kill, Chief Operating Officer at NTIA.

“But we are not just about training, we are about empowering staff and customers to create and protect the spaces we all value collectively. These venues belong to our communities. That means celebrating our nightlife, building confidence in going out again, and ensuring everyone feels they belong. This partnership is one step in helping us deliver that.”

Our Objective: Do Things Differently

The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) is launching a sector-wide shift in how we approach safety and inclusion, not through top-down mandates, but through practical, people-focused solutions that work for real venues and real teams.

Our partnership objectives are simple:

  • Empower staff with real-world, scenario-based training that reflects the reality of working in bars, clubs, and event spaces.
  • Close the training gap for casual and freelance workers, making access flexible, mobile, and ongoing.
  • Create a culture of care and accountability, led by in-house safeguarding champions and supported by an intuitive platform, with detailed reporting.
  • Build public trust and visibility, so customers feel confident returning to venues prioritising safety and inclusion.

This landmark partnership lays the groundwork for broader sector reform, including national training benchmarks, venue accreditation, and greater public confidence in nightlife. In the coming months, NTIA and Allara Global will roll out access to member venues, alongside options for custom content development and integration with HR platforms.

More details will be released to members in the coming weeks.
