A global evaluation of the drinks hospitality Industry 2025: key findings on talent retention

Published: 03 September 2025

Passion is plentiful, but support is key: A global report on retaining hospitality talent

A new global report, A Global Evaluation of the Drinks Hospitality Industry, reveals that while the drinks hospitality industry is filled with passionate professionals, it faces significant retention challenges.

Sponsored by Allara Global, Celebrate Her and CGA by NIQ, the research found that while two-thirds of employees build lasting careers, 72% have considered leaving. The report identifies a "critical period" of 4-10 years' experience where dissatisfaction spikes, driven by concerns over pay, long hours, and lack of progression.

Key challenges highlighted include mental health and workplace safety. While 85% of staff deem mental health support important, only 40% feel their workplace provides enough. Furthermore, 3 in 10 employees have felt unsafe at work, and of those who reported an issue, 73% felt it was not resolved.

The report outlines a clear path for employers to improve retention. Key actions include providing targeted support during the "critical period", strengthening mental health resources and safety reporting systems, and defining clear career pathways to address progression barriers. Addressing these gaps is crucial, as 3 in 10 female employees report that discrimination has prevented their career progression.
